We believe real commitment starts with a solid foundation; SilverStorm achieves this by working directly with our local community. An example of this is our support for the Academy and Youth System belonging to one of the biggest and most successful rugby clubs in Spain, El Salvador. Through a structured program of rugby, life skills training and mentoring, the SilverStorm Academy and Youth System acts as an entry point for tackling some of the greatest challenges facing young people today. It aims to help them address:

  • Improving performance: the ability to produce high-quality work, as well as a sufficient volume of work is the main competencies that future employers will be looking for. By training hard and practicing at every moment, our youngsters can improve their performance ‘quality and quantity’.
  • Understanding the factors: demonstrating what you are good at is paramount. Rugby is technically a difficult sport; the technical application in a game of what is learnt on the training ground demonstrates performance.
  • Interpersonal skills are key in the workplace and key in rugby: It’s easy to see that communication and teamwork are critical in a game. You need to be able to let your teammate know where you are, what you want and what you are going to do. As a forward it’s all about teamwork, getting isolated or trying things on your own will only lead to a loss of possession. Communication in the work environment is just as important. Knowing when to ask for support, when to make a change and when to help others is a key skill to have.

Funding from SilverStorm will allow the program to grow and expand further, reaching more communities and benefiting an increased number of youths. SilverStorm will add enhanced scope and depth to the program, drawing on facilities, resources and expertise through staff engagement. Ultimately increasing the participants opportunities to fulfil their true potential.

Sports, whether team-based or individual, are a great activity for children that provide a variety of benefits other than physical activity. Participation in sports can help build self-esteem and confidence, can motivate children to excel academically and can help build social skills. Participation also can teach children the benefits of goal-setting and practice.

SilverStorm's involvement with local Valladolid college volleyball teams, Colegio de Ave Maria and Colegio Lourdes, allows school children to benefit from the involvement in a physical activity, such as volleyball. Children often spend too much time watching television or playing video games. Playing volleyball provides an opportunity for exercise that can help keep kids in shape and healthy as well as allowing them to develop key social skills, whilst growing in confidence and self-esteem.
